MIRACLE LONG-LIFE DIET?
By Ernest A. Steadman

Prodded only by the Holy Spirit in meeting a need my wife developed
when she could no longer wear her false teeth because of receding
gums and pain from nerves that apparently have continued to grow
below the gum line. It was something that just came into my mind
that this is what Vera needed (a 76 year old).

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is very appropriate, Rev. Dr. Harmon, for anyone wanting to live
a long life. If I could afford it, I would go on the same diet I
have designed for my wife, which heavily uses Bananas.

I puree, in the morning and then again at night, 1 medium Banana, 1/2
Cup Milk, 1 Tablespoon Smooth Peanut Butter and 1 Equate (Wal-Mart
Brand) Weight Loss Shake. The shake contains 35% or all vitamins and
minerals, 50% of calcium, 70% Vitamin E and 100% Vitamin C in each
shake, plus an additional 15% Potassium. The Peanut Butter alone
provides 8 grams of protein, added to the milk protein and the added
Vitamin D. In the morning she gets Vanilla and at night she gets
Strawberry.

For supper, I fix her a bowl of Cream of Chicken Soup. I add 1/2 Can
Milk to the soup, never water.

I give her Sundays off and on that day fix only soft foods that she
can handle without her teeth.

In a little over a year of this diet, she has been cured of a 20+
year need to take blood pressure medicine. The other day it was
110/70 at the Doctor's office.

Here are some other miracles that have happened:

Age spots have simply disappeared.

More than half of her wrinkles have vanished.

In more than 31 years of marriage, she no longer has COLD hands and
feet.

Although she could have been the poster child for Bipolar Disorder
during our entire marriage, she has now become an adorable, loving
helpmate in all that I do.

Her back was so damaged from a beating she got from an ex-husband,
there were about a dozen "hen's eggs" all over her spine and the pain
was constant. Now, they have vanished, along with the pain,
something that her 75-year-old Doctor says he has never seen in his
50 years of practice. They get bigger with age, not vanish.

A recent eye exam for new glasses showed an improvement in her sight
from 20/65 to 20/40.

She was getting very bald on top, and now her hair is coming back in,
thicker than before.

Although she suffers from dementia (short-term memory loss and
reasoning) she reads better now than she ever has, seldom ever
needing to ask me to tell her a word.

My ex-employer, here in Douglas, passed away several years before we
returned. His wife was in the newspaper last month. Why? She was
celebrating her 100th birthday! I remember that she had low blood
sugar and back in the late 70's was put on a vegetable/fruit-pureed
diet. She is still on that diet.

Does anyone see a connection? Pureed food. No red meat, heavy on
fruits, vegetables, vitamins and minerals.

Any of you ever wondered how the "old guard" rich lived so long?
Ethel Kennedy was a good example, along with Queen Elizabeth's mother
in the UK, along with a host of others. I did a study of their diets
many years ago and found that they ate 5 or 6 times a day. No canned
foods! Everything in its season and heavy on fresh fruits and
vegetables (blanched or steamed, never boiled), not to mention the
daily glass of red wine and a Hot Toddy at bedtime.

What I am beginning to see is a Biblical Diet emerging; meat coming
from fish or fowl, in small quantities, and volumes of fresh fruit
and vegetables, spread out over the entire day and into the night.
Not to forget the occasional blood thinner; wine, hot whiskey
(aspirin?).

BANANAS (The Science)

Bananas contain three natural sugars: sucrose, fructose and glucose.
Combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and
substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two
bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No
wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading
athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep
fit. It can help to prevent a substantial number of illnesses and
conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst
people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating
a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of
protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you
relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills -- eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains
regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of
hemoglobin in the blood and helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in
potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect way to lower blood
pressure. The US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the
banana industry to make official claims for the banana's ability to
reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: A group of students were helped through their exams by
eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their
brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can
assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: Including high-fiber bananas in the diet can help
restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without
resorting to laxatives.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if
you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try
rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many
people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and
irritation.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers
because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The
B6 and B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium, help
the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the
heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water
balance. When we are stressed our metabolic rate rises, thereby
reducing our potassium levels. These can be re-balanced with the
help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of
Medicine" eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk
of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

A banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare
it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the
carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A
and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich
in potassium and is one of the best value foods around.
So lets change that well-known phrase to say "A banana a day keeps
the doctor away!"
